Emma Cathryn
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
This article is about a little girl and her family.
Emma Kathryn is the daughter of Gary and Elissa Vanveik. She was born at Kettering Medical Hospital in Ohio on April 20, 2005. She weighed seven and a half pounds and was ten and a half inches long. She is the last born of five. She has three older brothers and one sister. When she was only five months old her oldest brother, Brandon, set off for college in Maine at the University of New England. At the age of ten months she started getting her first tooth, the bottom front right tooth. Then in time the rest of them started coming in like sprouts all over her little mouth. She was always chewing on something because those sharp teeth hurt when they would poke through the surface of her gums. On April 20, 2006, she turned the big number one. The birthday party was with the whole family came together to watch her pick up the cake and smash her face into it. Needless to say, she made a huge mess everywhere. Her favorite birthday present must have been the Blues Clues blow-up chair from Aunt Beth, Uncle Darrell, and cousins Doug and Clair. She liked it because once it was inflated she never left it. She would even pick it up and walk with it when she was not sitting in the blue chair. At some point in time, she started walking. It is actually a funny story. She walked to come get her favorite teddy bear stuffed animal. Her mom was on one couch and her sister, Brittany, on the other that was across the family room. Jon and Dillon, her two other brothers, were helping her get across the room at first and then before we knew it she was walking back and forth form Mom to Sissy, only falling a few times her and there. As of today, she is trying to be potty trained, but she does not like the idea of panties because they let everything come out, unlike a diaper, that keeps her business in and does not make a big mess everywhere.

The UD women’s golf team hosted the first annual UD Invitational this year on October 28th-29th. It turned out to be a very competitive and successful tournament.
After redevoting herself to her golf game over the past summer and working on becoming a more patient player, sophomore Katie Gallagher finally saw the outcome she was looking for. On the first day she was able to shoot an amazing score of 73 and for the second day she shot another great score of 78. Gallagher tallied to score of an overall 151, making her the medalist of the 2007 individual medalist of the 2007 UD Invitational. "I just took it hole by hole this tournament," Gallagher said. "I didn't let myself get down after taking bad shots and that really helped me."
As a whole, the team itself came in 2nd place with a total score of 655. Julie Pouliquen began the first day with a 77 and finished the second day with a 79. For Mary Kane the second day with a 73 was much better than her first with an 86. Katie Dempsey ended the first day with an 82 and bounced back hard the next day with a 78. Sophomore Casey Peterson shot an 85 for the first day and picked up a 78 in round two. Also a sophomore, Cari DeAngle, followed similar to Peterson with an 85 in the first round and a 79 in the second. Freshman Ellen Ciacchini began with a harsh 89 and finished strong with an 80. Rounding out the Flyers were Paige Smith with an 84 and 88, Elaine English with an 87 and 88, Megan Keating with an 86 and 88, and Heather Grant with an 83 and 88.
In first place was Oakland with a total of 654. It was a very close tournament and the competition was great. Hopefully next year will run test and smoothly and turn out just as close.

Kathryn Hensman
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. This article is about a girl named Kathryn Hensman, but she likes to be called Katie. She was born on July 27, 1989, to Don and Debra Hensman. She was the youngest of three. Her older siblings, Courtney and Don, were excited to have a younger sibling. They are all very close in age, Courtney is two years older than Don, and Don is a year older than Katie. The three of them get along for the most part.
Katie and Don have their fights more often. For example, in high school, Katie and Don had to share a car. This was the main reason they always fought. Katie was a good student who liked to get to school ten minutes before school started, so she could go to her locker and get ready for the day. Whereas, Don liked to get to school five minutes after school started. This brought troubles in the Hensman household. Since Don was older, he thought he should get his way and always drive and get to school late. Katie did not like this idea of being late. Katie had honors chemistry for first period and hated being late, and Don only had study hall so he hated being early. Throughout the school year Katie learned how to talk herself out of many tardy detentions. One time, Katie had to get to school early because she had a meeting and told her brother she would take the car if he was not ready to leave. Don did not listen, he decided to hide the keys from Katie, and so she could not leave him and slept past the time she needed to leave. After this incident, Katie made a spare key to the car and hid it from her brother. Katie had another meeting a couple weeks later and her brother did the same thing, this time Katie had a spare key and left him at home. Katie got yelled at for leaving her brother and had to turn around and pick him up. Katie again never made it to her meeting because of her brother.

So the family was complete, loving parents and four beautiful children.

Kevin James Sander, born on April 26, 1989 weighed in at 8 pounds 15 and half ounces. He was a bigger baby but a loving one. When he was young Kevin loved to played basketball and annoyed his brother and sister. His mom and dad named Jane and Tom really cared for him. He grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and has lived there since. His place of residency was on Walkerton Avenue, and then moved to West Tower. Kevin and his brother Thomas really went at it back in the days. Both of them would fight like brothers are supposed to. Kevin was a wild child and loved to jump and play. He was very adventurous and at age four Kevin decided he was going to jump off the couch at his grandma’s which spelled trouble and nothing less. It was disastrous from the start of his new adventure. On his last jump Kevin took a different route and crashed violently into my grandma’s oriental vase. This turned out to be a bad injury as he was rushed to the hospital and was given seven stitches in his forehead. This is just a highlight of some of the things Kevin did. He was wild and crazy and his hair was white. No matter what Kevin always lost to his brother in basketball and still does. His sister was a nutcase; she was very emotional but treated him like her best friend. One night on a weekend and the parents gone, his sister Bridget let Kevin sleep in her room with her. This was due to the loud noises outside and also the fact Kevin was scared. One of Kevin’s favorite things to do was give his brother trouble and be a nuisance to his friends. They managed to get along despite the bickering and hitting of Kevin’s head, but to this day there is still a grudge. Kevin later grew up and attended Our Lady of Lourdes and after excelling in everything there he moved on to Elder High School. Little was known of what a great time ahead of him was. After achieving good grades through hard work Kevin was accepted to the University of Dayton. This is by far his greatest achievement and to this day he still looks back on the acceptance letter.
Phillip Monnier
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Phillip Monnier is from Tipp City, Ohio; which is about twenty minutes north of Dayton. He went to Tippecanoe High School and graduated with 192 other fine young people. He is very passionate about his heritage and where he comes from. This comes out when he starts talking about his school and city. Currently, he is majoring in Civil Engineering at the University of Dayton. He chose civil engineering because he has always enjoyed the construction process and when he was little, and even today, he likes to tear things apart and take a look inside. People often find him too curious for his own good. This is brought from him being naive. He has limited work experience and has not had a real job until this past winter. During this time he worked for H and R Block, coordinating people to getting their taxes done. This past summer he worked for the Miami County Engineer on the road crew. This was critical in determining his desire to get a college degree because he doesn’t want to do manual labor all of his life. He was also able to see what one civil engineer actually did. His immediate family consists of five people and he is the middle child. He has an older brother who is at UD and getting a degree in Accounting. He also has a sister who is a junior in high school. His extended family is quite large however as his mother was one of fifteen children and his father was one of seven. He has many things that bother him that many people would think is weird, however very practical. One of these is buying any form of water. This includes bottled water and ice. Something that people can get easy enough for free out of the tap shouldn’t be bought. He feels like it’s a rip off to buy a 20 oz bottled water for a dollar or more. He plans to never buy water nor will drink water that has been bought. An exception to this would be where tap water is unsanitary. He is also very random in his thoughts and his words. John Alexander Christian Klass was born at Lima, Memorial Hospital on October 4, 1988. This day marked the first, of a long successful life. At the age three years old John learned how to snow ski. He got on those skis and took off. It was his number one favorite thing to do. He did it as much as he could, and when he wasn’t skiing, he was dreaming about it. He was doing great, but when snowboarding started to come into the picture John could no longer keep focus on skiing. When he was in the fourth grade he started to dream about the day he got on a snowboard. He begged and begged his parents to let him learn to snowboard. It wasn’t until the sixth grade when his parents took him and his sister to Mad River Mountain to learn how to snowboard. His sister and him rented their equipment, and hit the slopes with no game plan in learning. It was a constant struggle for both of them all morning. His sister decided that she didn’t want to learn to snowboard that badly, so she turned in her snowboard for skis at lunch. John, however, was determined to learn, so he kept on going and eventually he mastered it. After that he never looked back, and never desired to ski again. He snowboarded at every possible moment that was available to him. Around John’s freshman year in High School he found the terrain park, and loved hitting all the big jumps, and rails. He entered his first competition at the age of sixteen, and took twenty third out of fifty competitors. It was obvious that John had great potential for the sport. After he won several rail jam competitions he ventured over to the half pipe and took very well to it. By the age of eighteen John was absolutely dominating in both areas of the competition. John’s life dream was coming true, and when he got sponsored by Burton he knew he had made it. He was finally able to compete up there with the big boys. He didn’t go in there and dominate like he was hoping. However, he was doing well enough to get noticed as a rising threat to all of the champions. John was still young and had a lot of room to grow in the sport of snowboarding. He was traveling around the country winning trucks, and loads of prize money. John was at a competition in Vail Colorado, when a representative from Volcom wanted him to be in a video that they were shooting. John gladly accepted the invitation and immediately started filming his segment of the video. He was in the zone and did some of the craziest things that he had ever done. After the video was let out, John was rated as one of the best snowboarders since Shaun White was his age. John was on the way to the top and loving every minute of it.

In these days chewing gum is a staple in American’s lives. Gum is so popular that in high school we always tried to hide our gum so nobody asked for a piece. When I wanted a piece I would inconspicuously pull the package out of my pocket and while holding it under my desk, carefully take out a piece and silently unwrap it. I would then pretend to yawn and slip the chewy delight into my mouth. I took part in these charades, not because I thought I was cool, but I knew if I did not I would be gum less within minutes. There would be a swarm of my piers begging like baby birds. But life was not always like this for us humans. The habit of having something in your mouth to chew originally started in the caveman era where they chewed on rocks and dinosaur bones. They soon realized that chewing these items was not the greatest thing for their dental hygiene. While eating some triceratops meat the early man bit into something soft, later known as fat. He found that this it was very chewy and did not hurt is teeth. This made the whole experience much more pleasurable. Man continued to chew animal fat until the early 1940’s when they started to chew on rubber. Now we all know, as did the people of the forties, that rubber does not taste very good. In the search to remedy this fault sugar was discovered. In the fall of 1948 a man by the name of Edgar Chiclet revolutionized the chewing business. He had this brilliant idea to put the chewiness with the sweetness. And so was born chewing gum, named after his wife Gumberly Nash. It was originally made from rubber tires, axel grease and shoe polish with a heavy dose of sugar and artificial flavoring. Since then we have seen many versions of Mr. Chiclet’s basic idea mixed with some modern technology and styles. Gum has becoming an essential part of our lives and for some people an addicting habit. But thanks to Edgar Chiclet we can all have a pleasurable chewing experience.

Arthur Vincent “Vinnie” Armstrong Evans, a native to Indiana was born on January 31, 1989. He weighed in at a whopping 12 lbs. 14 oz. quite possibly one of the fattest babies that anyone at St. Vincent’s has ever seen. He was taken to his home in Carmel, Indiana also known as the “Golden Ghetto.” From Carmel, Vinnie adapted to his surroundings yet never quite turned out to be like the rich snobby cracked out children whom he went to school with. Although, he had some mistakes such as being suspended from school in seventh grade he was still an all around good kid.
After Junior High, Vinnie moved on to a school which both his brothers Rawson (’04) and Jack (’06) had attended. The mighty Cathedral High School was the school of choice that his parents Bruce and Loretto chose for him. He began his high school career out very well, however; his troubled past of getting into much trouble followed him. Vinnie received 24 detentions in the first semester of his freshman year and was put on disciplinary probation. Soon after that he was almost expelled for vandalism in the boys gym locker room. However, Vinnie soon broke out of his mischievous and rebellious self and became the kid that everyone ended up liking for his crazy antics and his humor and smile. While in high school Vinnie participated in varsity football, wrestling and rugby. Vinnie’s first year of rugby, his team reached Nationals in Palo Alto, California; where they placed 5th. The next year they won state for Division I and was named captain his senior year. In football Vinnie kicked varsity for three years accumulating over 200 pts in his three seasons. He was leading kick scorer in the Metropolitan Indianapolis Area both his Jr./Sr. years with over 70 pts in both seasons. His team also won the 4A state championship.
Through out high school Vinnie has had an ever populated love life, but since his last one he has no care to have a girlfriend for a long time. After receiving his Academic Honors Diploma from Cathedral High School, Vinnie chose the University of Dayton where he is currently an undecided biology major and hoping to receive a scholarship for the USAF ROTC.
Daniel (Danny) A. Wynn, born February 6, 1989 to Mary Katherine and James Wynn. Danny was born in Stratford, Connecticut and lived there until the age of seven when he moved with his family to Gurnee, Illinois. While in Gurnee, Danny attended the Woodland School District from first grade through eighth grade. Upon graduating grade school amongst a midst of controversy, Danny was thrust into high school. However, rather than attending the normal public institution at Warren Township High School; Danny was forced, against his will, to attend the private school of Carmel Catholic High School. While attending Carmel, Danny took part in many activities, including; Intramural soccer and basketball, Varsity Soccer, Varsity Track, Curling, Recycling club, Boosters club, and Bags club. While attending Carmel Danny was able to witness the school’s first ever state championship in football. Unfortunately this led to the administrations focus purely on football and no other sports even though soccer was obviously the dominant sport for the remaining four years of his high school career.
In his later years of high school Daniel would grow quite fond of Carmel and the people he met there. After graduation from high school, Danny would go on to attend The University of Dayton, a Marianist university in Dayton, Ohio. While studying there he would pursue degrees in International Studies and Economics, with hopes of one day working for the United Nations.
Daniel A. Wynn was born into a family of five. He is the youngest of three boys; Stephen James Wynn born, August 12, 1984 and Bryan Patrick Wynn born, April 22, 1986.
